Environmental, Social & Governance Statement

Last updated: March 2026

1. Our commitment

EHL Group has been delivering commercial engineering, building services and construction across the United Kingdom since 1993. As a business with over three decades of operational history, we recognise that responsible practice is not a separate initiative — it is embedded in how we operate, how we employ people and how we serve our clients.

This statement sets out our approach to environmental, social and governance matters across our operations.

2. Environmental responsibility

Energy efficiency and building performance

The services we deliver have a direct impact on the energy efficiency and environmental performance of our clients' buildings. Through our HVAC, mechanical and electrical engineering divisions, we design, install and maintain systems that reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and improve indoor air quality.

We actively recommend energy-efficient solutions including high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, LED lighting, building management system optimisation and heat recovery technologies. Where clients are considering replacement or upgrade, we provide honest assessments of the energy and cost benefits of available options.

Waste management

We are committed to minimising waste across all our operations. Materials are ordered to specification to reduce surplus. Packaging, metals and other recyclable materials are separated on site and directed to appropriate recycling facilities.

Where works involve the removal of existing equipment or materials, we ensure responsible disposal in compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEE), Hazardous Waste Regulations and all other applicable legislation.

Refrigerant management

Our HVAC and refrigeration engineers are F-Gas certified and manage refrigerants in strict compliance with the F-Gas Regulation (EU 517/2014 as retained in UK law). We maintain accurate records of all refrigerant usage, recovery and disposal, and advise clients on the transition to lower global warming potential refrigerant alternatives.

Vehicle and fleet management

We are progressively reviewing our fleet and operational transport with a view to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Route planning, vehicle maintenance and driver behaviour are managed to maximise efficiency.

3. Social responsibility

Our workforce

EHL Group operates with a predominantly directly employed workforce. Our engineers, tradespeople and support staff are employed on permanent contracts with full employment rights, training provision and career development opportunities.

We do not use zero-hours contracts for our core workforce. We do not use gangmasters or unregulated labour agencies. Every member of our team is verified, qualified and accountable.

Health, safety and wellbeing

The health and safety of our people and those affected by our work is our highest operational priority. We hold current CHAS accreditation and are Constructionline registered. Risk assessments and method statements are prepared for every project.

Beyond compliance, we are committed to supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of our employees. Our industry carries recognised risks in relation to mental health, and we take an active role in creating an environment where our team feels supported.

Training and development

We invest in the continuous professional development of our workforce. Our engineers maintain current certifications across Gas Safe, NICEIC, F-Gas, FDIS and other relevant schemes. Apprenticeship and trainee opportunities are provided to support the next generation of skilled tradespeople in the North East.

Community

As a business established in County Durham for over 30 years, we are committed to the communities in which we operate. We employ locally, procure locally where possible and contribute to the economic vitality of the region.

4. Governance

Business conduct

EHL Group is committed to conducting its business with integrity, transparency and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. We do not tolerate bribery, corruption or any form of unethical business practice.

Modern slavery

We maintain a Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement in compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Our full statement is available on this website.

Data protection

We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our full Privacy Policy is available on this website.

Supply chain standards

We expect our suppliers and sub-contractors to operate to the same ethical, environmental and safety standards that we apply to our own operations. Our procurement processes include pre-qualification assessments covering health and safety, employment practices, insurance and financial standing.

Accreditations

Our governance and operational standards are independently verified through the following accreditations and memberships: CHAS (Contractor Health and Safety Assessment Scheme), Constructionline, Gas Safe Register, NICEIC Approved Contractor, REFCOM (F-Gas), and ECA (Electrical Contractors' Association).

5. Review

This statement is reviewed annually by the directors of EHL Group and updated to reflect changes in our operations, capabilities and the regulatory environment.
